Spoolers,

Just out of curiousity I wanna know what upgrades you guys did and in which order?

Also, just for the fun of it.. Post your reaction to the first time you did a pull or drove your car hard after doing the mod (;

Thanks everyone
Derek

Tune (Cobb)
DCI
Intercooler
DPs
Alpine Flash
Stg2 LPFP
LSD

The Tune was immediately noticeable.
DP's were noticeable
Alpine flash was a mixed bag
The rest were improvements but hard to quantify.

ETA: I also added Index 12 injectors, Eldor coils, plugs, CP, 2 OCC and RB PCV ... none of those are performance mods, I consider them maintenance.

Maintenance, Alpina Flash then:
JB4 -> DCI ->CP ->FMIC -> DP's -> JB4 BEF -> PE-MOD -> OCC -> Today.
Between this many cosmetic mods, 4 set of wheels etc etc.

I did downpipes, FMIC, custom BBFlash tune (before MHD was around), LSD, M3 front arms, E93 rear swaybar, M3 subframe bushes all at around the same time. Updated my tune about 9 months later with a bit more boost and better torque reporting (due to MHD's capabilities) and flashed with MHD. About 9 months after that, did hybrid turbos, inlets and LPFP and tuned. Next step will be BMS/CP-E charge pipe and a little more boost.

Recommendation on a good brand?

Whiteline/nolethane two piece ones are great (easier to install). This is what i have and no complaints - I'm in Australia i assume they'd be available elsewhere.

Otherwise m3 or solid bushes. Personally I prefer some isolation and solid bushes aren't for me (daily driver my car).

Favorite mod was probably charge pipe / removing the cowls and hearing how much more "boosty" our cars can sound

Did you install the BMS mini filters after removing the cowl? Does this give more of a whoosh sound or turbo whistle? Any problems with water?

Intakes / Inlets give you a much louder turbo whistle, while the BOV is so much more prevalent with its blow-off. No water issues, (I do have BMS filters) although I do have an annoying issue with blower motor atm that seems to occur to many with a slight smoky smell, still delving into it but not sure if related.

COBB, DP, DCI, CP + forge DV, HPF fmic (all at the same time)
switched exhausts too many times... muffler delete -> ae performance quads -> n55 exhaust + pe mod -> pe -> vanguard -> hpf exhaust -> meisterschaft -> pe -> pe mod...

Conclusion... PE is the only good sounding setup for n54 short of a single turbo swap.

help me.

That's whats stopping me from going to far down the path. Once I go there I know I won't be able to stop.
Just don't go into it with a budget, if that makes any sense. Because once you spend a bunch of money on one thing, you'd be doing a dis-service to that part and yourself by mating it to a mediocre supporting part.

When I first got the 335 (2011) there was a guy that was pushing all the limits with performance mods and trying all the new parts, etc. I followed his journey all the way through aftermarket turbos and I think he was one of the first to go single turbo, that I was aware of. A short time later he disappeared. Several months later, when he returned, he made a long post, reflecting on his journey and his observations of the process. My interpretation of his summary was that the car was designed to operate within a "performance envelope" where everything worked together and was relatively reliable. Once he got past the FBO phase, and upgraded the turbos, it started a cascade of problems (coils, injectors, pumps, engine, transmission, axles, etc.) that ravaged the reliability drove the cost of operation out of sight. His recommendation was be satisfied with FBO, where the car was very fast and still reliable enough to be a daily driver. Not go to upgraded turbos unless you were willing to relegate the car to toy/hobby status where it was not relied upon for transportation and you had a large budget to keep it going.

Each time I see someone make the jump to single turbo, followed shortly by them parting out the car and selling it, just to move to another platform, it reinforces his observations of a few years ago.

I think this rings true on many platforms. People don't realize just how much it will cost when things break.

First thing I did was buy my jb4. I then looked for 3 weeks until I bought my 335i. This was back in 2010 lol. Still have the car today, although it has a lot more now. After the jb4 was intakes, fmic, and downpipes. back then ar design and macht schnell were the only decent downpipe companies with the latter costing less at around 600 bucks for a set. my how times have changed.
