Why would you want to do this?

Because the factory thermostat is incredibly high. The only reason it is so high is for emissions purposes, it's not conducive to engine performance or oil longevity. Bypass your thermostat and run an external one at 180F like every oil manufacturer recommends.

I have the ADE oil valve. Though I've seen some differences in the 07 and 08+ valves. The 08+ has a more narrow tip, though the ADE valve does not.

I bought one BMS and it did not fit so opted to do this and temps stay consistent below 250

Plus it's free and if you don't like it you can always revert back but there are no differences between this mod and the ones being sold!

I don't know about anyone else, but I always have got my best track times and fuel economy when temps are closer to 250

from another thread I was reading on the the closer you get to the 250 degree mark the dme starts pulling power. I'll try and find it and post here.

And just go look at SAE oil test procedures. The tests are run at specific temperatures with oils capable of working at a predetermined deviation from those specs. Our stock ~240F oil temp puts us on the ragged edge of what the SAE certifies oil for. BMW did this because of emissions period. There's no other reason.

I've read that article before. And yes, for coolant temps over 240 it reduces engine power. For oil its over 300 degrees.

While others results may very, I have found that my car runs more consistent, and quicker with my temperatures closer to 250 degrees than it does below that temperature. I have run my fastest times with temps around 250 (11.5@122 mostly stock with my own tuning and meth)

Running no oil thermostat isn't a great idea on most cars. Its there not just for emissions, but for overall vehicle efficiency.

As warm as our car gets there is no problem running it this way at all and that's coming from 1st hand experience since 2012 with ST if there were to be a problem I'm sure I would have had it by now. No one is telling you to change you like your oil hot, But I for one don't like my oil that hot. and this keeps temps down a tad bit. We're talking 10-20 degrees difference, regardless of your times heat is one the greatest enemies of any engine.

And here I thought heat improves oil performance. Viscosity or some sh!t like that.

Nope, they're wrong. Heat is the enemy. That's why I removed all of my coolant and oil T-stats, hardwired the pumps to run all of the time, and hard wired the fans too. I'm so much smarter than BMW engineers.

Thanks for the sarcasm LMAO but if you can read this mod doesn't drop that drastically so that for the laugh! If this so bad for engine thats why multiple vendors sell it ......some peoples kids lol

Just because a lot of people do it and sell it doesn't mean it is the best way.

I have seen multiple reports of people complaining that their engines are not heating up properly without a thermostat installed. I have seen this first hand with a couple local cars. Maybe in a full race car it would be acceptable, but not in your average street car(which happens to be the majority of this community).

Everything suffers from oil being to cold and not warming up properly. It isn't a matter of "what I like", it's a matter of actual results.

i didn't put this video here to argue with anyone and I really don't care if you do it or not. Extended warm times a little but that does not mean the oil is not at proper operating temps lol
