Yes it is. And that's what makes it great. Especially Moreso for a DI engine where fuel oil dilution is an issue. IN which the Schaeffers is designed (one of many things it's designed to do) To combat against.

And also what was said above by @Bmwfixerguy1 there are more reasons than that though of why I run it. But it would take a while for me to find all the testing again.
That's great to know, I've always liked Schaffers oil. Thanks!

So, for someone like my doppleganger who does not care for the emissions BS and wants the highest performing oil for a turbo like my 6266 which is only oil cooled, what is the best oil to run through my car without spending a fortune along the lines of FTW Purple fuel etc. What is the next best stuff that can realistically be used at every change interval?

I am using Fuchs Titan Race Pro S 10W-50 on 6000km change intervals... it's not the best but it works great.
motul 300V degrades too fast..the first 1000km is lovely but afterwards the car feels very sluggish
motul 8100 is pretty much general spec...
mobil 1 i use it as engine flush these days... last time i used it the oil smelled burnt when i did a change at 2000km

bmw twin oil i think is rebranded castrol now?

So I think you know what I'm gonna say..
Rotella t6 is my opinion. I'd recommend you visit bobistheoilguy.com it's a large forum that talks about nothing but oil!!
Lots of VOA for you to sift through and compare. Also read the forced performance oil recommendations article that will help out a lot and they have a chart at the bottom

I like charts... And csv files :p

I hear Torco oil is what Pure recommends? Anyone try it out?
I've read good things just never tried it.. I'd be curious to hear some input as well. I always pay attention when turbo manufacturers/modifiers take note to a certain oil. Turbo oil has to put up with a lot of stresses

I run none of the oils listed. I run Schaeffers Supreme 9000 in all my boosted/performance engines.
Funny, this is what I run, and have run for years. Whenever I say that's what I run most have no idea what I'm talking about. Stuff is great though, especially if you see the testing of it... I run the 5w40 in my ST 335i, and the 15w40 in my 2nd gen cummins.

A lot of the good oils are diesel oils. What makes a diesel oil desirable is the high zinc and phosphorus content. What's known as your zddp package. This is your anti wear and friction additives. Excellent for an ICE but in 2006 the EPA said horrible for cat converters! So they limited gasoline engine oils to I believe 900ppm.
That's not enough for what we do to engines and turbos!! Now diesels don't have cats so they can have as much as they want.. Off road race oils can have as much as they want as well because they don't have cats. So using a diesel oil is just an economical way of getting more zddp into your oil.. Diesel oil does have more detergent which some would argue is great and some would argue is bad.. I think a little more detergent isn't the end of the world :)
Hope that cleared that up a bit for you

Diesels do have cats, and they also have particulate filters on top of that and urea injection on top of that. They have to deal with all the emission systems of a gasoline engine plus alot more .

Yes your absolutely correct, and I was sure someone was gonna make that statement.. Your correct but took it too literally. I know all to well about them (I have all of my bmw diesel certifications)
You will have two main systems your diesel particulate filter and your selective catalyst reduction system. Both of which are targeting a different type of emissions, nox, not the same chemical reactions going on as a gasoline engine and their catalyst systems so you don't wind up with the same damaging affects to the best of my knowledge.. Plus a diesel can request regens of the dpf when ever it sees fit and a gasoline engine can't exactly do that.
The bottom line is your absolutely correct and that was irresponsible of me to state that but it was the short answer, although wrong, to this statement.
And last but not least even if it was damaging to a dpf or scr cat.. The engine wouldn't exist with out the oil stated above so I'm sure there is a trade off or a give and take... If you k ow bmw diesels then you will know that the scr cats, urea inject and nox sensors have a hard enough time staying alive as it is.. I do t think anyone will ever know if zinc and phosphorus could damage them lol
I hope you know bmw diesels cause we could have one hell of a conversation lol

Same here. I've converted several people over the years, but most people give me the deer in headlights look when i mention it. Im surprised not many people use it to be honest. I use the 5w40 in the N54 and my other TT car. can't say enough good things.

I change it so often I don't think it really matters anyway.

The occasional Blackstone report agrees.

Hi,

In looking for some fresh oil for my hybrids, the rotella is hard to get where im from, so im looking for the motul 8100, now i can get 2 different types of 5w40, the motul 8100 x-cess or the motul 8100 x-clean, does anybody know if there is a difference between the oils? And which one to pick.

Thanks

Castrol Edge 0-40 LL01 full syn for me. Surprised that's not one of the poll choices...

This UOA was just shy of 5400 miles. I will probably go to the 8K interval encouraged by the report just to see the results then settle back into a 5K-ish interval after that, maybe even less.

Bmw twin. I haven't found any reason to change it up but I'm still stock at the moment. More research will follow as mods are added.

So much data here, thinking of switching from 8100xcess to t6 just because I can get it locally. Afaik they're basically the same grade oil

Oil discussions always turn into something akin to a religious debate.

Tony uses Amsoil. I use Motul in my old car (stock motor, high mileage). We believe in using good oils and changing them often.
