Hey there everyone it's finally that time! A while ago I performed an analysis of inductive secondary spark energy on multiple ignition coils and found the stock BMW B58 coils to be quite phenomenal. If you haven't seen that analysis I highly recommend you take a look at it here. Compared to the stock N55/S55 ignition coils the B58 coils are capable of producing 2x the energy output while providing a longer spark duration than the Precision Raceworks N54/N55 coils. The B58 coils are a coil on plug design that removes the need for additional spark plug wires and utilizes the same mounting location as the stock coils providing excellent clearance for top mount setups.

To mount the B58 coils onto the N55 & S55 engines I've developed a billet aluminum brackets that are Made in the USA. Our N55 & S55 Ignition Coil Kit with coils fitted weighs only 3.0 lbs. That's over 50% less than the Precision Raceworks kit. To make installation easier I've designed plug and play connectors that are made with nylon and Made in the USA. Our kits allows the factory engine covers to be used.

This kit took longer to develop than initially anticipated due to design constraints with the S/N55 engines ignition coil bucket inserts, fuel injectors, wiring harness and inlet clearance. Our 3 bracket system utilizes one of the fuel injector hold-down bolts to mount our brackets. The brackets are CNC machined from 6061 billet and are machined on both sides to create recesses for both the fuel injector hold-down bracket and casted components of the ignition coil bucket to ensure correct bracket alignment (highlighted blue below).

Ignition coil mounting height is kept as low as possible to avoid conflicting with inlets and engine covers.

Ignition coil clocking was optimized to avoid interference with fuel injectors, valve cover, wiring harnesses and the ignition coil bucket itself. The clocking positions allow for our plug and play adapters to be placed on-top of each other between the two ignition coils for a low profile and clean installation.

The kit can be ordered in a couple different configurations and pricing varies depending on configuration. The plug and play kit is for those who want a simple installation while the non-plug & play kit is for those who want to re-pin their factory harness for a clean minimalist look.

Orders can be placed on our website: https://nexsysmotorsport.com

Pre-order yours here! - Kits are in production at this time and will begin shipping the week of September 13th 2021 on a first come basis.
  • 3 x billet aluminum brackets with plug & play connector harness - $299.99
    • 6x Plug & Play ignition coil harnesses
    • 6x Longer ignition coil boots
  • 3 x billet aluminum brackets without plug & play harness - $259.99
    • 6x B58 ignition coil connectors
    • 24x B58 ignition coil female terminals
    • 6x Longer ignition coil boots
Kits do not come with B58 coils at this time, you will need to provide those yourself. The B58 ignition coils (OE Part #'s: 12138643360, 12138678438, 12138647463, 12137619385) are typically $36 - 42/each and are available from FCP Euro with their lifetime warranty. If you're feeling cheap I've seen sets of used coils on ebay/forums for around $150.

Our kit fits N55 engines using the "newer" T-shaped injector hold-down bracket (BMW Part# 13647595405) from 01/10/2011+. This accounts for the vast majority of N55 engines. If your injector bracket is T-shaped like below then you're good to go!

Thank you for your patience while we designed this kit!

Hey, unfortunately that is the very very early production E-N55 injector bracket. In 12/01/2010+ they changed over to the T-shaped bracket. Unfortunately the bolt pattern is also different in the coil bucket and therefor the cylinder head as well. If you are interested I can order one of the older ignition coil buckets and make a version that will work on the early production E-N55's. Let me know!

Thanks,
Austin

@NoGuru, thanks for trying!

@bahn, thanks for the reply. Yeah my production date is 11/2010 👎🏼

Just so I understand, if you make a version for my valve cover, what would that arraignment be? I get the coils you, you make the brackets, I test?

The brackets look really nice, good work. Is it possible to buy the plug in and play kit with the female terminals supplied? Just so it's possible to streamline the look of the install further down the line if I'm feeling confident. Also, are the brackets raw (as machined)? Or clear anodised or something?

Hey there, sorry for the delay in response. Yes we can send you terminals and connectors for modification of the factory harness, just send me an email at [email protected]. Brackets are raw as machined as you cannot see them once the coils are installed.
Hi @bahn any update on order #258 please?
Thanks
Sorry for the delay in response, 258 has already shipped. You should have an email from us with the tracking information. Thank you for your support!

Very interested in this super early N55 version as well!

Hope you're able to get something to work for those early n55s! Would much prefer this solution

@bahn any update on order #255 please? It’s been showing as “UPS has not received this package as yet” since 9/28. Thanks
