I was looking through Borg Warner catalog and ive noticed two new things! BW is now selling the SX-E compressor covers for the EFRs turbos and they are selling a new s300sx-e 72mm turbo!

Easy way to explain this is that the Borgwarner journal bearing turbos(sxe line) came out after the efr lineup. From my understanding, shortly after the efrs came out Borgwarner discovered a way to make the compressor covers more efficient. A good example of this is the efr7670 which makes 64lbs per min vs the s257sxe (same size as the 7670) which makes 68 lbs per min. A 6% increase in output from the same size wheels is no small achievement.

Another little golden nugget for people who a more focused on power vs spool is that because the journal bearing versions can be "safely" over spun it's possible to squeeze more power out of the journal bearing turbos for longer periods of time. Efr turbine wheels / shafts have been known to fail when overspun.

But the big thing is that new s372sxe which allow guys to safely push a 1,000whp with a turbo thats physically smaller than the efr 9180

How does this impact the spool by switching to a JB and what does this do to the footprint of the EFR with the SXE cover?

EDIT: Okay, so its smaller?

Spool will be worst due to the inconel turbine wheel being heavier but with the inconel wheels the can be overspun and their profiles are more efficient than the Gamma Ti wheel. Gamma Ti is hard to cast so they can't get as aggressive with the turbine profiles like they can with inconel Also the compressor cover is smaller giving you a smaller footprint compare to the normal efr!

So, the EFR is still BB but when combined with the SXE cover, you get potentially more flow and smaller size? Is there a spool trade off being made here or just a pure upgrade?

There's only a spool trade of if you go to SX-E turbo which journal bearing and has a inconel turbine wheel. Putting the the SX-E cover on the EFR might give you a bump in power and make the EFR easier to fit!

I canĀ“t find more information about SX-E cover performance advantages over EFR original cover.
Could anyone try them?

Pretty cool. Was hoping for an EFR that would actually fit in our bays when I was considering ST. I know this will make a lot of folks happy.
