So even deeper on the time line.
Engine stuff.

1. had 6466 on stock plastic manifold, and plastic valve cover. Car ran on ots mhd Jb4 BEF for like a month before I melted piston No. 4

2. Pulled old engine, sourced a 8bolt n54 with lower miles, I re-sealed the new motor just to be safe(main seals, pan, valve cover ect) rod bearing looked awesome. Valve train looks great. Timing chain stuff was perfect.

New oem BMW vanos solenoid x2
New oem BMW cam sensor x2
New oem BMW crank sensor
New index 12 injector x6
New oem HPFP
New low pressure fuel sensor
New oe Waterpump
New oe thermostat
Deleted the A/C (Hard motorsports kit, I'm in PNW it doesn't get deathly hot)

Here's where I messed up. I installed my old alternator that has 75k miles on it. No big deal, except when it was on the bench metal grindings got into it, my fault, I didnt see them, bad mistake.

This is when I installed the vargas valve cover and the Doc race intake manifold.

I have my head ports plugged. Valve cover going to 2 catch cans 1 pulls vacuum with a check valve line going to to underside of the intake manifold. The other vents to atmosphere.

I capped off the vacuum port on the throttle body. And have the corresponding fuel vapor vent plumed into the underside of the intake manifold. Everything is crimped tight no vacuum leaks.

I installed a MFactory twin disk, mated to 6MT and installed in my garage. New slave cylinder.

Got all my plumbing for the coolant figured out. I went from thermostat, straight to heater core, back to reservoir, to top hose/ radiator, now I don't have hoses near my belt.

I extended my wiring harness for my throttle body with non insulated butt connectors, and heat shrinked each one, continuity test checked good after extension. Wire loomed for safety.

Installed charge pipe with a 3 in. 45 degree coupler to the new BMS 7.5 intercooler, super tight fit. Like took forever to get on .

So now everything has been extended and re routed to where it should be. Everything is installed.

3. I go to start the car.
Car starts with this issue.
Gets codes 2cec 2ced 2d09
I think, okay I broke my throttle body doing that super tight install with the 45 degree coupler.
But I wasn't paying attention to voltage, it was running on battery. I just installed a new battery too.

I order new throttle body, and a 60 degree coupler.

In the mean time I've been checking all the wiring, checked all ecu pins and jb4 pins
Made sure the port injection was wired properly
Antilag, 2-step and nls, wired properly

4. installed New throttle body on car with new charge pipe setup, everything fits way better, I didn't have to force anything. Start car and same issue and codes.

At this point I notice smoke from the alternator, and like 12.4 volts. I remove alternator, inspect find damage.

I inspect all engine fuses in the passenger footwell glove compartment. at this point I think I blew one of those 30 amp fuses.

I ohm tested the fuses on the battery too, all those tested okay.

Every fuse ohm tested okay no Open loop.

5. Order new alternator, and installed. I seriously thought this was gonna get the car running, nope same codes and no throttle.

That's the time line.

And after I swapped the alternator I flashed the newest JB4 firmware and did a full write MHD BEF, everything flashed with no issues I have no noticeable comms issues with the DME.

Don't pay for ista, I have not downloaded in a long time but I think this thread has it available. https://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1581170

DaeDoe, sounds like you know your way around an engine. Def get Ista D working and it "should" help.
Thank you, I appreciate all help that I can get.

I'm not really a big computer guy. So over the years I've put off downloading ista. Now the car has forced my hand lol.

I've just been popping in and out with the BMW stuff today. And probably gonna be slow this weekend because fishing opens and other stuff.

May be worth soldering that extension and verify you’re using the same gauge high quality wire.

Thanks for posting that link! I haven't downloaded the zip yet because i'm just on my phone, but it looks like it has install instructions included in the file. When I get time i'll try to muddle through it (i've heard of, but never used bit torrent before, and IT stuff isn't my strength...).

compression fittings are much more reliable than solder, especially in an environment that has ANY vibration. Solder sucks for vibration. wicks up the wire and makes it brittle. no solder confections(other than PCBs) are allowed in aviation or naval standards.

I had a smilier problem with a customer car, same codes and car would start for 20 secs and then dies, sometimes it just starts and keep jerking for a bit and then dies. I checked everything, changed 3 throttle bodies and 1 wiring loom from a running car but didn't solve it, it was the DME, yeah it had the MSD81.

Forgot to update thread, the issue was the throttlebody, brand new out of the box.

Took everything apart which is a pain, due to the forward manifold, have to take-off the bumper cover and intercooler, and me being lazy.

The throttle body was actually physically jammed, I had to force the throttle plate open with like 50lbs of force, then I moved it back and forth for like 20 mins by hand to free everything up, put it back together and everything worked.
