I'm sure it has been talked about before but I guess I missed the convo, I currently have the BMS intake on my car and it's time to buy a new filter so I'm debating on buying a new one or buy a drop in for the OEM box so I've been looking online but it's a 50/50 debate so I thought I'd bring it by you guys first. I definitely like the way the BMS sounds but my main concern is heat, it definitely gets hot in there and I know it has to go through a turbo and there is going to heat up and later on cool by the intercooler I get all that but my thing is hot air is going to get hotter right?
So for example talkin crazy numbers sitting at the line waiting to go down the track on a summer day

-OEM box(sucks air from outside); lets say ambient temperature is 80 degrees and Turbo is going to heat it up another 20 degrees so now the intercooler has to cool down a 100° air

-BMs (sucks air from engine bay);ambient temp is 80° and engine bay is 100° plus anothe 20° added by turbine now intercooler has to cool down 120° air

Well at least that's my logic and that's what I wanted to bring by you guys, am I right or I'm completely wrong and it doesn't make a difference? all input appreciated

Dyno with oem and bms ... + 10~15 with bms at any temp. Engine consume 5 times the air that you think

nice cover, kinda brings it back to OEM look and they don' mention any performance gain with the cover just noise reduction so basically aftermarket would be better than OEM based on theyr testing

The BMS intake will have slightly higher IATs as it is not enclosed. The IAT is one factor but the BMS intake increases the amount of air sent to the engine. Even if it has negligible impact on IAT, the intake would be worth it (specially at higher boost)

Any car with a MAF like the N55 needs to have the MAF calibrated when running an aftermarket intake, most do not do this, which is why you hear people with the BMS and others having slight idle issues, and even stalling in some cases.

As for flow, I call bullshit on it flowing more than a stock intake, let alone a stock intake with a drop in. I also doubt the BMS adds 10-15WHP on it's own but that would be hard to verify considering comparing dynos is pointless.

Lastly and more importantly, a filters job is to filter and high flows filters suck at actually filtering out dirt. I remember the 3 rotor RX-8 race cars (500WHP NA) had to use modified intake that ran the OEM RX-8 panel filters instead of the K&N filters because they were getting so much sand in the oil pans at Daytona.

I think it's a bad idea on a stock turbo setup but you know what they say about opinions :)

on dyno maybe BMS gets better numbers, but you should try 100-200 or 60-130 with both setups, I remember Peter tried it and got better times with stock intake than BMS intake. like ( -0.5sec)
