Technical N54 single turbo tuners suggestions

Hey guys ,

Going to go ahead with a custom tune for my single turbo n54. I have been looking around for some tuners and have got some names such as cd919, doc vu ,older ones such as v8 bait , trebila, wedge (don’t use jb4 anymore) and twisted tuning, but I wanted to see if anyone could share their experiences with their tuner . I am some what limited by running a jb4 but all suggestions, comments, ideas are absolutely welcome . Please let me know if you guys have any other tuners that I haven’t herd about ! Thank you!

I have only heard good things about Motiv, cd919 and pure evil tuning. If you plan to road tune and log yourself I would suggest you message/email/call a bunch of them and go with the one who has availability and is easiest to communicate with. Communication is key if it's just you and the tuner IMO.

I was considering Ken @ Wedge, given that he probably knows more about tuning a N54 and working with a Reflex than anyone else would. However, several contacts of mine each went with him within the past 12 months and all had overall bad experiences of some sort. Most of them would try someone else if they had the choice. This does not necessarily mean there is anyone better than him, but you don't know unless you go through a bunch of different tuners regularly.

I plan to go with Motiv. This is because I plan to book dyno time and the dyno owner has an existing relationship with Motiv, so the communication between them is likely good or at least better than where I'd get with some jaded tuner who's sick of dealing with typical n54 owners that can't get their cars running properly etc.

I took your recommendation and emailed / dmed doc vu , cd919, pure evil and twisted tuning! I’ll report back with any good or bad transactions .

Motiv is an all around great choice , and if I could do it again I would have gone another route than the jb4 , although it really hasn’t let me down , the wiring gets annoying and the limitations on tuning are starting to arise.

I have experience with several tuners mentioned with my single turbo setups.
V8Bait did all my early tuning but he's not in the game anymore.
Try David Shoup then Ken at Wedge. Ken can be a little difficult to deal with but the tune will be as good as it gets.

Negative. I am sure they would be happy to tune their Reflex+ and the stock DME. What does a JB4 give you now a days vs a flash w/ PI controller?

That's a good mark on reliability. I don't recall seeing any threads where somebody's jb4 quit working on them.

Funny I kept hearing about David Shoup so I actually just emailed him lol! Will report back, but I’m still super unsure on who to pick , seems like everyone has a ton of mixed reviews, posted on fb forums doc vu seems to be the favorite by far there lol !

I don't know, I drive my slow car as fast as it can go. Yet it is still slow not that much fun.
