Hi guys,

my name is Mike, 40years old and coming from Switzerland. My main language is german and polish, but english is fine as well.

I came across this forum when searching for BMW Z4 35is Upgrade turbo chargers, because most of N54 tuned cars are 3 or 1 series. So i was very happy seeing that here are guys who love the Z4 and want to tune their car.

I have my second BMW Z4 35is and have more than 10 years of experience about this engine and all known issues.

I do most of the tuning, maintenance and repairs by myself since more than 20 years and i know also that the Z4 is in some kind different that for example the 335 models.

So if you need help please do not hesitate to chat with me.

Whats the size of your chrome endpipe? How big are your front brakes? Looks upgraded

Well it was a ‘piss take’ that went wrong..

What do you call a Z4 E89 35is that has no longer ANY of the features that made it a 35is over a 35i?

Exhaust gone
Power map gone
Car mats gone
Plastic trim on bumper gone
Instrument cluster gone
Rear bumper colour gone


It’s not a 35is

It has 550 BHP from different turbos that bmw racing Germany uses the same supplier

It has a Quaife LSD

It has a bigger German stainless steel exhaust system , Fox

It has M3 E89 suspendion parts

It has M2/M4 front discs and wheels…

It has Shelby Mustang 350R 6 pot Brembos

It has F series M5 rear calipers

It has 7 series 370mm rear discs

It has `Ohlins R+T suspendion

It has a non 35is digital instrument cluster

It has over 150 other modifications…

So I figured a G29 M40i is called a M40i cause it’s around 400 BHP and has some m parts..

Therefore logically mine is a M55i ...but I called it a M50i..couldn’t find a M55 badge

Sadly I used the wrong type of glue and now it’s permanently stuck on..it will need a boot lid repaint if I remove it..

Do you have a comparison to KW V3? I am using KW V3 since 15 years now. Iam wondering how good the Ohlins are.

The Ohlins are really good…but ..since I’ve not put kw on the same car impossible to compare..

I do know that over a 250 mile day on high speed bumpy roads the ride is good whilst keeping the car in check with 550 BHP..
