So I recently purchased the PR coils, since they are basically the same price as buying BMW coils from the dealer, and not too much more than from FCP (and yes, I'm aware Delphi coils are much cheaper). Honestly I was super impressed with how quickly PR shipped the coils, so kudos to them for good service.

But to the point; I was unable to find any real guide to installing them on the n55 - though there are plenty for the n54 - so I decided to make a video of me fumbling through the install. They're just coils so it's not rocket surgery, but still someone may find this useful.

EDIT: Turns out I actually installed the coils upside down (backwards?) - the logos should be facing inward. This greatly improved fitment.
I made a followup video, but really it's just me explaining that I screwed up so I can link it on the original video. That's where you'll find it if you're interested.

I didnt watch the whole video, but i know with the most intakes (at least the injen intake) you actually need to bend the holder brackets to lay the coils down and flip them around. Otherwise the the Intake rests on the connectors of the coil in the middle. i have some pictures on one of my phones.

Yeah, the intake resting on the connectors in the middle is what I ended up with. It's not a ton of weight, but obviously not something you'd want long term. I'd love to see the photos of how you modified the brackets to solve that.

These were installing as the kit was delivered. as you can see the Fitment with an intake is not ideal. so flipped them. Ad still would sit on the connector. not ideal because vibrations would eventually kill the connectors.

And the intake support could not be used to attach to the intake manifold

Had to bend the mounting brackets another 45 degrees or so and down to kinda get the coils to lay down where they sit.

Made it so they fit with the intake and the mount can be used.

Thanks for the video. Am I the only person that thinks it’s crazy a company is selling a $400-500 part that doesn’t fit correctly?

No, you're definitely not.

People were clamoring for an N55 ignition kit so this is what you get. Gotta take the good with the bad. But really $400.00 for a kit like this is cheap. Similar kits for previous cars I have owned were in the $600.00+ range.

Still had to have the coils flipped.

I just flipped all of the coils - which apparently is how they are *supposed* to be installed. Fitment is much better, but still need a new intake for sure. Never really expected any different though.
