Dumb Question Amnesty....

If the PR Coils and R8 Coils are useable (albeit with adjustments), why can't inexpensive coils like MSD Blaster Direct Injection Coils (LINK) be used?

Those are like r8 coils which means they're smart coils and you'll have to run some kind of adapter since our coils are dumb

@V8bait can answer this. But @CenTXe92 I know your tuner and your ECU setup (wink), you are in a different boat than 99.9% of us. What is an available option for you isn't an available option for most of us.

Just curious, the link you sent says $60 per coil. Then you need to buy a high quality 6-wire set, right? Then you need a wiring harness to mate factory connectors to the aftermarket stuff. My math is $60x6=$360 plus a good set of wires is probably $80 or so ... call it $440 for the coils and wires ... then you still don't have the wiring harness. Electronics and what's capable aside, given PR and BL setups are under $500, not sure which part of this relates to "inexpensive"?

The maintenance side that you didn't take into account is the inexpensive side.

Same maintenance as any coil on a high powered motor, the coil and the wires, depending on setup. You don't honestly think they're just going to run forever, do you?

I don't. But given that's the point, how much does one R8 coil cost versus the MSD Blaster Direct Injection Coil?

You'd be surprised what a good coil can take long term. The new gm stuff for the gen V motors are good, they basically converted to the D585 coil universally. It's a good coil, way better than the standard LS. They all convert to it.

To run a smart coil you need a harness like BL. The reason you don't see a BL kit with gen V coils or D585 is because they are more expensive than the R8 and require wires, mounts, etc etc adding to cost, so margins would be lower if you wanted to keep costs down. Ask how I know lol, the PR is a steal imo lol. The R8 puts out just fine and is cheap, even if you need to treat it as a maintenance item unlike the others so pick your poison... I think BL chose wisely. If you're worried about "best" coil then you better pony up and/or expect a more complex setup.

@V8bait have you noticed any issues with the spark plug boots that came with the PR coil kit? The top of the boot has popped off a couple times even after making sure everything was clicked on tightly.
