Hey guys, been a bit since we were active here on SS but we're back and, well, let's roll into some of the new products we've put out and are working on. For now this is sort of a catch-all thread with a variety of topics -all fuel related of course.

One of the bigger things we've recently done is a tip of the hat towards the more advanced DIY'er, and released the what we call the "DIY Series" LPFP kits. Sold in single or double systems, bucketed or bucketless configs, these -with our (in)famous guides make building your own upgraded pump that will hold its own against other commercial pre-built offerings. High quality hardware, easy to follow instructions, save yourself a lot of cash while leaving the hard parts to us:

Bucketed:

Bucketless:

IMG-0294.jpg

Feedback thus far has been great; no headaches, no issues with following instructions -need to take care on some of the steps but we clearly point out when it's time to take a deep breath and go for a 10 min walk before getting to the tricky parts. Remember help is an email or call away, and more importantly if you're in over your head....worst case we can finish the build for you, complete with test results for a price that doesn't sting. We won't tell anyone you needed help. ;)

Want something that's not on the website? Email -most of the time it's available. We understand that the whole point of aftermarket is making things the way you want them, and while our turn-key products suit most needs, we do take on custom projects or just small product tweaks often. It's simply a custom invoice away.

As the platform ages and people push power output further, it's natural to look at factory restrictions. Once such restriction that can show itself once into double pump territory is the factory in-tank filter/FPR. We aren't inventing the wheel here, but what we do suggest is a new OEM-type unit, with the regulator removed and blocked off. Of course this means you'll need an external regulator -which we offer- but that's a whole different discussion. This is a drop in replacement, pre-modified with quality hardware and ready to be part of your build. Coming soon; hardware for you to do the mods yourself (it's not a difficult change, just need a few tools and some strength). We do have some unmolested samples kicking around if someone just wants a new factory type replacement.

One of the more recent upgrades we've made available is the option to replace the good 'ole Walbro F90000274 with the F90000295. This is a GREAT upgrade for many people that are right on the cusp of a double pump system, but don't really need the flow two pumps offer. A 295 will flow approximately 30% more than a 274. A good way to think about this is that a bucketless 274 system and a bucketed 295 system (with properly adjusted venturi) will flow very close to the same. That means a bucketed 295 system will knock on the door (safely) of 600 whp on 100% E85, and bucketless can push that even further.

Why use 274's? They're significantly less expensive and have a check valve. The 295's meet a certain need and are a great value but don't be fooled by the literature out on some sites -they do NOT flow 2x what a 274 does, not even close. This has been tested with a variety of regulators and pressure gauges and it always comes back very consistent. 295's flow a respectable ~30-40% more than a 274 (with similar current draw), but a double 274 pump system still kills it across the board.

As for the F90000285, little less popular of a pump but a good choice for an upgraded second pump when you want to push just a little bit harder. The 285 has a check valve making it suitable for secondary pump use, but draws too much currently to safely be used as a primary pump with a factory EKP controlled system.

We can do (and have done) a big-mama version of these and run a 295 primary and 285 secondary, but at that point it really makes sense to go external, use the 295 with an aggressive venturi to keep that bucket full and run the 285 straight out of the tophat and through it's own line up to a Filter/FPR combo. Overkill? Now we're talking 1200+ worth of fuel, stock turbos ACN91 need not apply. ;)

Mix/Match, build what ya want, if you don't see what you want just email, a custom pump can normally be built, tested, cleaned and shipped within 3-4 business days from time of ordering. Most pumps are in stock, light on 295 primary double shots at the moment, but that's a smaller subset of pump needs anyway.

Finally, a word about some of our competitors. Be careful what you purchase. I'm not naming names, there are plenty of competitors to PFS that make excellent quality products and we have working relationships with several of them. I'm talking about the doofuses that people need to be aware of, even if highly regarded in some facebook groups.

Example? Thowing a 295 in a bucket with no venturi. The venturi is there to speed the flow of fuel through the flapper valve while also bleeding off a portion of pump flow to help fill the bucket. Here is the thing; fuel only wants to flow so quickly through that flapper valve without the venturi lowering the pressure on the top side of the valve. Any guesses on how this turns out?

As you can see, this is a perfect combination of the worst parts of a bucket and a bucketless system. Now all you do is empty your bucket with ruthless efficiency of a bucketless system, and starve your pump of fuel at high boost/high RPM. It won't be subtle in the log, LPFP will be great great great GONE. No drooping first. Ouch! This is what happens when people who don't have proper test equipment speculate on how things work.

Need help un-doofusing a pump? We can do that. Help is always just an email away.

In this case, the customer heard good things about PFS, and reached out to us with a request that we take a quick look at the bucketed 295 product he had just purchased and give feedback on a couple details he had taken photos of. Long story short we went out to the test bench and showed him a quick vid on how quickly a 274 would empty a bucket with no venturi, and told him he'd could expect about 30-40% faster bucket emptying with his 295 running full tilt. After he changed his pants, he boxed up all the parts and sent them to us for a small fee for in-person diagnosis and testing with estimate to fix. When all was said and done they got their single-pump back built properly, tested, cleaned and ready to NOT leave them high and dry mid-pull. It would have saved him some cash to just purchase a good product the first go around, but we do more than just sell our own stuff; we'll help you fix yours.

Yep, basically for probably 80% of people out there you don't need to upgrade the LPFP, and it's recommended NOT to replace it with a Walbro 274, as it flows about the same as stock. Yeah yeah they don't last as long in ethanol.... but a new LPFP from FCP euro is under $200. DW400 isn't enough of an upgrade to be worth talking about. A 295 is a nice upgrade, but you only get 20-30% over the stock pump. So what to do?

Well, easy to do a "side car" style add on pump or pumps, the down side being they're bucketless. I'm doing one of those (with provisions for two pumps) for a person as a custom job currently. More excitedly, I've found someone to work with who has a 5 series that I can use as a tester. We're doing a system that's basically stock but will have an inline pump mounted outside of the tank. It'll be easier to install, cheaper, and get most of you guys where you need to be. I have to finish testing the one pump I have and receive the second one (and test that) before shipping off to the guy I'm working with. Timeline? Month or so. I can make update posts concerning that here if you'd like.

This makes the most sense for most people. It's an easy install, it's actually a legitimate upgrade from a new factory pump, and the price is right. We're always here for the one-off stuff (which I seem to be doing more of) for the odd bird here and there that likes going crazy.

Close to to stock always sounds great! Your Last thread helped me decide to try ethanol and judging by my fueling logs (@14lbs of boost on stock turbos) im well in the good range (side note, is our psi ranges the same as the 335 IE anything above 65 is still okay? thats what im judging it on..) Would love an update when its all completed as the work is far from over on this 535I and id love to up the boost a little more on e50.

65+ is fine and dandy, no worries there! Edit, just got tracking for the other pump on the 17th. :)

Damn, this is not only an awesome thread starter but you are dropping knowledge bombs all over the place.

I don't think I need more fueling, yet, but it's been on my mind once I get new turbos. I don't have any E85 access in my area so I am limited to pump gas... and don't see any hopes to gain much power from pump upgrades with 93 octane. 😂

Awesome thread though

Nice post! love my PFS DIY bucket. Top notch product and the absolute best customer service. Also love that you are willing to work with what your customer has, even if some of the products are from a competitor.

Quick update on the 5 series BS.

I have two unlikely candidates. One of them is cheap, easy to implement and should be good for the better part of 600 whp.

The other is cheap, not as easy to implement, and should be good for more than 600 whp. I tentatively have a 5 series dude with GC's in Colorado that wants to help with testing. He needs to recover a bit more and I'll send him some boxes of parts to sort shttuff out.

This is not a typical solution. It has some drawbacks. Blah blah blah. It also is EASY to install. I think you guys are going to like it.

If you need others to help with testing let me know, I have a few E61 with upgraded twins.

Sent out the smaller 5 series upgrade to the tester -it'll be a while but they have nearly everything needed to start messing around.

The bigger upgrade will be similar in setup, but slightly different. Harder to implement and not quite as awesome looking but will add significant headroom.

Below is a vid of larger option on current pump test stand. First stage is a 274 running direct to test stand (no venturi/etc.) at 13.5V. Second kick in is the bigger pump assisting. On this test stand that's quite a lot of fuel -more than a traditional double 274 bucketed assy. It requires a very minimal amount of in-tank work (basically remove/reinstall stock pump... simple mod to tophat only).

The smaller option will flow about half the extra flow -so why bother? It'll be cleaner and easier to implement. For now, check this out.

Edit: This is post-regulator. :)

Just wanted to throw a quick shoutout to Chris at PFS. He worked with me this summer to sort out a dual 450 setup I had bought from what use to be the go-to N54 vendor a few years prior. We quickly realized my current setup was cobbled together and would be more trouble than it’s worth to rectify.
Chris at PFS went over several options with me and tried to save me money where he could, while also making a new setup that would hold up over time without cutting corners. All the way down to the crimp connections he uses, even these are the best money can buy.
The communication, not being rushed when talking over ideas with him, and final product were all above my expectations. My PFS pumps have worked without a hitch this summer on my 650+whp e85 GC car and fuel pressure stays consistent run after run. If you are a car geek that wants to work with an even more knowledgeable car geek, PFS ftw!

I appreciate the kind words Cornfed. Thank you.

PFS is a small company and we have the luxury of being able to offer both catalog solutions that more than earn their position, but for those that want a little extra we do custom work. Sometimes this extra comes in the form of the equivalent of the DIY kits -you guys were part of the initial inspiration for them- and sometimes it's bespoke creations. One thing is for sure though, PFS isn't special because we know some trickery that no one else does about fuel systems, we're special because we'll show you the tried-and-true basics and empower you to capitalize on that (be it OTS, DIY, or custom).

I recently ordered a diy bucketed upgrade with a walbro 295 pump from PFS and everything went well without any issues even with the hilarious instructions to boot. Chris was very responsive through email and I felt confident that he would offer assistance if I ever needed it. Thanks again for the excellent customer service and product. 👍
