Curious what is involved to install the zhp shift knob? Can anyone chime in that has one? I have read in another forum some say it does not fit and some say it does with modification but I could not find any details.
Hmm interesting, well I have learned compatibility charts sometimes are not always accurate but I think I will order it and see what needs to be done. I think the boot just needs to be modified. I did notice the illuminated version includes the boot. Shouldn’t be too difficult to cut, fold, or staple?
Here is a thread I found that some guys said it wouldn’t work:
You could order it from ECS. If it doesn't fit, their listing is incorrect and they can send you a return label. Won't cost you anything. Report back and let us know how it goes!
Update: Does not work since the Z4 knob and boot is a one piece unit. I am now thinking the M5 knob might be the one to order up as the knob is attached to the shift boot. Not sure how the shift base vary but I am guessing it is going to take some work to install. Will update everyone if I get it figured out.
I would be amazed if the ZHP shift knob didn't mount on the shifter - every BMW I know has the same mount. What you need is a separate boot that mounts to the bottom of the center console tray. That's the issue if you want to run the ZHP knob, I suspect.
Shifter is great. We had a helluva time installing it. I think Rob sent stuff 3 times - problem I think was E89 Z4 stupid little differences. So just be aware of that.
