External Engine oil cooler

I know this has been discussed multiple times, but there’s no real data proving if one is better than another.

Is it beneficial to run a block off plate to the oil filter housing or running an adapter to the oil cooler?

Adapter retains the stock thermostat.
If you delete the thermostat warm up times will be significantly longer.

I purchased the 185F external thermostat. So warm up time is not an issue. Just not sure if the oil flow would be better or worse with or without the stock oil cooler in the housing.

Would you recommend a 185 thermostat for someone in a colder (NY) climate? Or would you go higher to 195 or 215?

My vice against a 215 would be in summer months where I'm afraid it might negate the benefits of an aftermarket cooler.

I think it begins to close off at 185, and stabilizes around 210ish. The benefit of an external thermostat is that it still allows oil to bypass the coolers and warm up faster. I personally think you would be fine with the 185.

Wouldn't a 215 work better? So it activates at 212 and fully opens at 233. So your oil temps would stay around ~210...
