Ad: E90 skidplate

I've had many people ask for an e90 skidplate that replaces the oem belly pan, so here is is! Final product will be .150" aluminum and held on with 6 rivnuts plus all the oem bolts. Price target is $350 or less.

You're doing E92/3? And M Sport vs non m sport compatibility?
Comparing sedan to coupe, the only difference is the material (felt vs plastic) and the addition of a vent on the 335D. The vent will only help pull hot air out the engine bay on gas cars so I'm going to incorporate it into all plates. The Msport is just 3 extra holes on the front of the plate (at least on an msport 335D, should be the same on the rest).

I did an m sport conversion and its different in a few ways actually, including the fender liners.

Picked up the first .150" aluminum prototype today! Fits great, just need to sort out riv-nuts to add some true anchor points to the car and a couple spacers. Weight is 15lbs.

What will be the functional benefits of this skid plate?
If you happen to run over something in the road, it won't tear up the underside of the engine bay, oem belly pan, and potentially crack the cast aluminum oil pan if you hit something big enough.

Just some clarification

A skid plate scoop will force air into the engine bay and cause a pressure wall. This will prevent proper flow thru the grills. Correct placement allows fast air to pass underneath without slowing it down. This will pull slower moving air from the engine bay. Air moving out = heat moving out. Maintaining a low pressure zone under the car serves several purposes and this is just a brief explanation

I’ve got an aluminum skid plate, trans plate and rear bumper plate. There are pros and cons

OP, I suggest you separate it in 2 parts. It’s a pain installing an aluminum pan when solo and you’re just working on jack stands. Also if it gets warped after hitting something it could start to drag. A few years back I was driving to out of state and the BMW tech that worked on the car didn’t properly tighten the front bolts. Middle of no where the front starts dragging and car is too low to get any tool under to resecure.

Is your design missing the oil drain access?

Rattling / vibrations if it’s touching anything. I have sound deadner on it to prevent that now but previously if I over tightened it anywhere the thing would make noise.

The extra bit of weight will cause securing issues when using stock mounting points. I have those push button release bolts on mine now but use to use new hardware every damn time I re secured it. Can be aggravating.

Ideally you want something that can seal the bottom of the car but CAN break away unlike aluminum.

The advantage for me was allowing me to add some strategically placed aero designs. The absolute best place to seal is the rear bumper to the diff. It’s a parachute on 335i’s. The design of the *M3 exhaust is to eliminate that

Now you have me very interested. I'd love to seal up the rear of my 335is. It seems like a huge drag/parachute going down the road.
