Hello all,
Well my HPFP is crashing and during wide open throttle it's not even pushing 1,000psi. I know Tony at Vargas put together a single barrel fuel pump but it is a little expensive. I'd really hate to put in a re-manufactured one and have to deal with this **** in another 3 years. FCPeuro has a re-manufactured one with a lifetime warranty for $400. Where's everyone getting their pumps from nowadays? Has anyone made any advancements for the N54 HPFP? Just had a custom tune done and I'm running more E85. Car has been maintained meticulously since day 1 (2008).

There is currently no modified pump at the moment that I know of.. I've tossed around some ideas of how to modify one based on its operating principles but no luck as of current moment..
Tony's kit dosnt come with a pump so you know it's an overdrive for a factory pump(s)
Just get a new pump and don't worry about it again. How many miles on your car they are warranted through a class action suite to 120k miles

Do you guys have any interest in a little bit of a community vomiting of hpfp design? I'm not looking for another project, but I got into the hpfp years ago, did some design work, and came up with a solution that isn't practical. I'm willing to share the small amount of info that I have... although if any of you make the thing, you absolutely owe me a burger and a beer.

I'm always up for design ideas.

Car has 106,000 miles but no CELs. How am I going to get a dealer to change out my pump with E40 in the tank and a custom tune? I bet they'll want a CEL or something VISTA BMW blows. I do notice that my idle rpms have gone up slightly and its steady too :(

Tony has already figured out how to relocate the HPFP and run it off a belt drive. The hard work has been done.

I'm just waiting for VTT to take the next step and use a 800-1200hp HPFP from the diesel world in that remote mount. Single HPFP, not overdriven (probably under driven for 98% of us), with a hell of a lot more reliability than our crappy pump. The common rail diesel guys have been doing this for 20y already. No need to reinvent the wheel, just plagiarize their work.

So you're suggesting that the stock pump be removed and replaced with a diesel pump?

In that case, I'd imagine some sort of "boost box-like" device would be needed to effectively communicate with the DME.
Increasing the native fuel output of the current pump would seem like the easiest route. Retrofitting a different pump that is driven differently as well creates it's own set of problems.

The diesel pump idea will only be acceptable if it'll allow us to roll coal....

The problem with a diesel pump is that the lubricity of petrol or "gas" can vary greatly depending on the composition and is generally lower than that of diesel which would probably cause the pump to wear out prematurely. Another issue is that they are designed to operate at pressures an order of magnitude higher than our HPFP's, Although it would be pretty sweet if we could have 12mm stroker CP3's on our N54's

The pressure part should be easy enough to fix by using an underdrive pulley if you are affixing it the VTT method.

You wouldn't have to underdrive it as the pressure is controlled by an internal regulator on the pump, however, their minimum operating pressure is around 2000psi (most CR diesels idle around 5000psi) which is about our max pressure so I imagine a metering valve from a DI petrol engine would have to be installed in place of the diesel one

Well I'd run that tank dry and flash back to stock if it was me lol pretty easy fix I'd think for a free fuel pump!
