According to the vin plate, this F generation series is almost 600 lbs heavier than my 2009 335i e93 convertible... Am i imagining things??? What gives?
Are you comparing a 2 seat convertible to a 4 seat sedan? The gross vehicle weight is the accumulated weight of the vehicle and the maximum weight it can carry, I thought? (That is including passengers and their cargo)

E90 335i sedan is 3329 lbs. So yeah... I am comparing the convertible with the sedan. Also the converible has 4 seats and heavier seats than the sedan.
Also that vin plate shows empty weight and not filled. No vin plate can show filled weight since it is impossoble to know who will sit in it.

No, that's not right.
There is a reason it's called gross weight. It's telling you that the combined weight of all passengers, cargo, and the curb weight should not exceed the gross weight.
This is a common misconception that the weight on the VIN player is the curb weight, especially among bro truck owners that think their truck wheels 7000lbs lol.
My wife's Escalade only weighs 5600lbs and it's an esv.
