Are you just using the reflex to drive your mac valve for now?
Currently yes, I do plan on adding flex fuel soon.

I guess another option is there is a fab shop local to me that seems highly capable. I could have them build what i'm looking for, but I can't imagine that would be cost or time effective? I guess I don't know until I ask...

local is never a bad option especially as they can optimize it to fit your X1, but do keep cost in mind.

Thanks for checking in! The Dorch stage 2 HPFP went on a black Friday sale, so I ordered one of those so I can feel like i'm making progress while I ponder turbo options.

So it sounds like your mac solenoid is wired to the reflex, and it's basically passing duty cycle from your DME to the mac (but at the 30Hz ish frequency vs. 300 Hz ish stock duty cycle)? I'm thinking of doing that, or potentially just running a boost solenoid right from the DME like hardparker was doing here:

I'm kind of bummed I may have to give up my hope for an internally gated EFR😕 I'll probably bug Jeff at Speedtech at some point and see if he'd be willing to do an externally gated kit with an EFR since the IG kit seems to be hitting a brick wall. I really like that 4n kit, but I'm having some trouble getting questions about it answered, and i'm a little paranoid about cracking going with a welded 304 manifold. Disclaimer: I haven't heard of any issues with their manifold, I just mean welded 304 turbo manifolds in general😉

Any thoughts on reliability with welded 304 manifolds? Maybe it's not that big of an issue, but the more I look into it, 321ss seems to be the way to go for longevity.
Dorch stage 2 is a nice piece, will it support your power goals on full E? and hmm exteranly gated isn't bad imo. On my car i have the wastegate recirculated into my exhaust. You genenuily can't tell it's a single turbo with a external gate. Only signs that my car is a single turbo car is the T51r mod making it sound like a jet and the fact that my car sounds good unlike most twin cars 😂

I think the Dorch stage 2 should work well for my goals, they say it supports around 650 whp on pump and 500 whp on e85. Right now I'm planning on sticking with 93, and I don't plan on building my engine, so if I could get over 500 whp on pump I think that would be awesome. Dorch now sells a lift kit that if used with their stage 2 pump can support up to 900 whp on e10 and 750 whp on e85, so there's some upgradability available if needed👍

Did you go top mount or bottom mount with your single? Are you running a MAF?

Built motor X1 would be a sleeper :) do it. One of a kind, you could own all the x1 records 😂. And hey that’s perfect no Pi no complications, and the lift kit for the dorch since your now building the motor 😂.

Is that lift kit available for the B58’s ?

And my cars top mount, I prefer bottom mount though. And it’s mafless, all N54’s are mafless

Well, that simplifies some things👍

They don't have that offering listed yet, but it's probably only a matter of time as they have stage 1 & stage 2 hpfp for b58. I see they're even offering a lift kit for s55. Dual hpfp on a lift kit has got to support some flow😯

Hell yeah, that would be sweet!! I can't imagine actually owning the fastest of something. I know there are some PS2 X1's around, but I haven't heard of anybody taking one further than that yet. Built motor is one of those things that could maybe happen down the road, kind of like my thoughts on a ported head. If I did it, I'd probably just start cobbling them together over time, and let them sit in my garage... Then throw 'em in if I ever need to replace my engine or head👍

Soooo are you going sleeved with the built motor or stock sleeves 👀😂. Man I’m getting more ideas as this thread goes on. I think now you’d need a sleeved block with a built bottom end, ported head with upgraded valves and springs, retainers. With some upgraded cams. And then to top it off 8 speed swap.

Let me go win the lottery. Then I’ll fund this project for you 😂

Hey @wheela have you considered going with a hybrid turbo option
Yeah, I like the simplicity of hybrid. But I feel like it's a compromised solution, and if i'm going to put time and money into it, I'd rather put more time and money into something i'm more excited about. VTT just came out with new GC and GC+ for n55 that look pretty promising, but i'm wary of their reputation, and there aren't any results on it out on the forums yet.

Yea, no VTT won't let a friend buy from them 😂.
I'm warmimg up to external wastegate😊
Aye see it's not baddddd

Hey guys, any special kind of engine stand needed to hold an n54/n55? Or would a cheapy like this work?

I'm considering getting a speedtech external wastegate kit (without turbo) and buying my own EFR 8374. I'd need to mock up fitting the longer CHRA and I don't want to do it with my car tore apart, so i'm considering getting a junk n55 & used water pump, etc to figure out any tweaks that may be needed to clear the coolant pump, thermostat, hoses, etc.

The compressor housing would stick forward probably another 1.5 - 2" past this picture (maybe more? Need to check...) Obviously I'm n55 and this pic is n54.

@nyt - If I recall correctly, I took this screenshot from one of your threads. If so, did you have Speedtech's water pump relacation bracket installed? I'm curious if the water pump position in this pic is stock location, or shifted over via the speedtech bracket. Any details you could provide would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

The HF works just fine, no frills - I don't see much need for anything more. Granted I never threw an N54 on one but I have put on a heavier engine.

You can get a used one for like $20. This is what happens, you use it once, then you move it around your garage for 5-10 years, then get sick of moving it around and sell if for pennies or just give the damn thing away.

@wheela what’s your power goals. And have you done much research into what a Ewg N55 can comfortably hold? I have a friend whose planning on buying a 2015 F30 N55 car.

I'd love to hit around 500whp on 93 if possible.

For your buddy, EWG performs really similar (slightly less) than a pure stage 1. But as far as what the stock n55 can hold? I think it's limits are probably right on par with a stock n54. Just don't ask for too much torque down low, which goes without saying. Realoem says the rods in my n55 (I'm 2015, but PWG) cross reference to f80's. The f80 guys hit 700 on stock block, but they also have another 1000rpm of rev so they can move the torque higher up to make the power.

Here's a link of an f30 guy that made probably 650whp on a stock block EWG n55 with a speedtech 8374 internally gated kit (swapped the oem EWG actuator to the EFR), e50, and meth (stock exhaust and intake). Please note I haven't heard if he's ran into any reliability problems with the engine at that power level.

Here's a screenshot summary of what power he made with varying levels of fueling mods and fueling (all with stock lpfp).

Thank you sir for that information. I saw RK tunes make that as well. Just wasn’t sure if it was possible. Also, can you do this DI only, with the high lift kit for the dorch stage 2?

Everything in that thread was DI only and stock lpfp. On n55, I'm not sure at what point you also need to update the lpfp, but here's what Dorch says about capacity with their hpfp's and lift kit. Ar that point, you run out of injector, and have to upgrade to s63 eu5 injectors to take full advantage. I think you can get a set for around $700 - $800. Pretty sweet👍
