Can you be my dad?No. But I've been having this hair-brained conversation with the son that is LS swapping the E92 M3 and telling him that a perfect swap would be an X6 M with a blown motor, ala CoPart. It's basically an E series swap, everything is out there for it. I'm wondering if it can be 8HP swapped with AWD.
Hell I don't know@fmorelli curious how the front diff would work? As normally the diff is located within the oil pan itself?
Hell I don't know
If they put the diff in the oil pan, where the hell is the engine oil?!
Nice ride, fellow e84 owner hereI have a 2010 X1 I picked up cheap. It’s in great shape but needs a timing chain(n47, and possible valve damage).
I’m thinking about LS swapping and retaining the AWD. It’s a HP6 Auto, and I read they are fairly stout. I see adapters for LS to HP8, but not specifically LS to HP6. They eould be the same adapter wouldn’t they?
I also see several options to integrate control of the auto.
I haven’t studied the oil pan/front diff yet though, as I understand there may be complications.
Regardless of whether it’s practical/reasonable/economical or not…..has it been done???
Anyone???
Bueller??
TrueIf I was doing it with an auto I'd want an HP8. I've seen adapters for cars to go from HP6 to HP8 so I sincerely doubt it's the same adapter.
Not economical at all so better to do it all right.
Other thought is I would also personally want the LS3 aluminum block for weight savings.
True
Firstly, I had a very thorough study of the oil pan/front diff arrangement today.
What a dogs breakfast
I can weld a dick on a snowman, but not really sure I want to tackle that abortion.
Then yes, I am looking into plan B, an LS adapted to HP8 and conversion to RWD - for simplicity sake.
However, there is potential for plan C.
Tgere’s a 2000 X5 nearby. Also cheap as chips and runs - although poorly they say.
It may be a 4.4 V8.
It alsy MAY be 4wd.
I’ll have a look at the driveline snd see if any lightbulbs come on upsatairs.
After looking at that pan/diff, I’m pretty distrought sbout rven doing a cam chain in the old n47![]()
