Guys - are the existing fuel factory in-tank fuel lines E85 safe? Or do they need to be changed when going to E85? Seems like a simple question but I couldn't search my way to an answer.

I was under the impression only an upgraded LPFP was needed and the lines would hold it fine.

I have friends that run E85 with stock lines and they say it’s okay…

Whether that’s definitive, I will never know.

Yeah ... I have no idea what the factory BMW in-tank corrugated lines are made of.

I've been running my E46 on full E85 for 2+ years on stock lines. When the government started mandating 10% ethanol in fuel back in the day, manufacturers had to make fuel lines ethanol compatible.

This.

The use of E10 was spurred by the Clean Air Act Amendments of 1990 (and subsequent laws). This kicked off modern U.S. ethanol industry growth. Almost everything is E85 compatible now.

I believe the only line worth changing is the stock LP line to HPFP/PI. Move up to a -6. -8 costs barely anything more but it is overkill. You can make 1000hp on -6. Motiv did -8 and split to -6 to feed PI and -6 to feed HPFP and -6 return on their 1000whp shop car fwiw.

That is what I have on my car, -8 up to under the driver seat, Y into 2x -6 one goes to the flex sensor then the HPFP and the other goes to the PI rail then to an external FPR then -6 or -4 back to the tank.
