Honestly that whole setup for the N54 is crap. No one has come up with a real solution for air intake management for these cars. Taking in dirty air in the engine compartment is a mediocre solution.
That said, even worse is the DCI setup itself. The worst part is the front cone and inlet, which flop around like a cheap Honda Civic. Actually any Honda Civic part is likely better set up than this. So now that I've crapped all over the solution I have -
My car has MMP inlets - they work fine. The front one runs through an Adel clamp that conveniently mounts to the front of the engine with an M10 bolt. The inlet comes around the alternator, and we designed and fabricated a bracket to hold the inlet and DCI assembly in the front. As for the aluminum - I don't have that documented in my build sheet. I thought that came with the
Burger DCI kit, but looking at the current offering that is not the case. You could easily purchase some aluminum tubing to suit your needs. It easily cuts with a hack saw if you need to shorten pieces.
You could also run the AFePower air box. I have one of those sitting around, new in the box, but have not installed it. I have this pipe dream of running a 740i airbox with my own fresh air routing, but haven't gotten to working that out.
