I've looked for quite some time and can't find aftermarket intercooler piping anywhere for my car.. I want to get rid of the plastic piping when I replace my intercooler and I've been putting off the install to find this first, but no luck.. If anyone has any knowledge on this subject, please shed some light!

Thanks for your time,
Brandon

I already installed the blue 4 ply hose that connects my chargepipe to the plastic intercooler pipe, I just need a replacement for that said plastic intercooler pipe. Appreciate the reply, though!

Hmmm ... I have no clearance issues with that setup, and I don't recall hearing anyone else having issues. Photos of that area are not easy to take, given the front side inlet pipe obscures the view. Don't know if these photos help:

Maybe there's different setups by the year because what I need is what The Covert said; the up pipe. I'll take a picture of it when I have the time. fmorelli, what kind of inlet setup are you running? I have the dual cones, but they're attached to the shitty stock inlets for the moment.. Been looking for the best solution to swap em out and yours seems to be the best I've seen so far! Can you give me some info on those beasts?

Really appreciate the help, everyone!

Interesting, do you have the ER intercooler too? Just seems confusing because the ER intercooler shows piping that looks like 135/335 routine. Figured it wouldn’t work in a z4 because of how the lower chargepipe and upper chargepipe are angled downwards compared to 135/335s

Yes I have the full ER setup, per two links I provided above.

Honestly that whole setup for the N54 is crap. No one has come up with a real solution for air intake management for these cars. Taking in dirty air in the engine compartment is a mediocre solution.

That said, even worse is the DCI setup itself. The worst part is the front cone and inlet, which flop around like a cheap Honda Civic. Actually any Honda Civic part is likely better set up than this. So now that I've crapped all over the solution I have -

My car has MMP inlets - they work fine. The front one runs through an Adel clamp that conveniently mounts to the front of the engine with an M10 bolt. The inlet comes around the alternator, and we designed and fabricated a bracket to hold the inlet and DCI assembly in the front. As for the aluminum - I don't have that documented in my build sheet. I thought that came with the Burger DCI kit, but looking at the current offering that is not the case. You could easily purchase some aluminum tubing to suit your needs. It easily cuts with a hack saw if you need to shorten pieces.

You could also run the AFePower air box. I have one of those sitting around, new in the box, but have not installed it. I have this pipe dream of running a 740i airbox with my own fresh air routing, but haven't gotten to working that out.

On the note of intakes, I forgot to share below picture and data.

What you see here is my stock Z4 airfilter with an airfilter from the AMG M156 6.2L V-8 engine placed on top. The AMG engine uses two of those. The total surface area of the Z4 filter is 23x25 = 575cm2. The AMG filter is 2x14x28 = 784cm2.

So only 36% larger, despite the massive difference in stock power.

I guess this would suggest that the inlets is where the actual bottleneck lies.
