550whp — do I really need a full exhaust? Or are dps and 335is muffler good enough?

At what power level do you think it’s necessary to run a full exhaust? This for running VVT GC lites.

Currently running downpipes and a 335is rear muffler. I’m not big on loud exhausts, but I am trying to get a clean tune to around 550whp, running flex fuel.

Side note — there is a bit of raspiness around 5k rpms under certain WOT applications that I don’t like, but not sure if it’s the exhaust system or just the state tune/wgdc that decides to glitch out a bit and sound like that. Other than that, I’m happy with the exhaust setup. But — is the entire center section a choke point when trying to flow to beyond 500whp?

As long as you've deleted front cats and mid cats you're good, a louder exhaust won't really add anything noticeable in my opinion. Some people get wider pipes but that's up to you. I'm running no cats and factory exhaust on an E93 (different than E90 pipes) and it's plenty loud. I'm sure others will chime in with their opinions.

Factory exhaust doesn't get restrictive till about 600whp. Your twins are causing the s raspiness most likely. Single turbos don't have that rasp sound typically on a stock exhaust

IIRC @Payam@BMS dropped his exhaust off his ACF/VM ST 6466 kit making 700whp and saw little to no gains?

The stock pipes are 60 mm or 2.36'' which is fairly large, granted there are some bends and restrictions you could get rid of. The only OTS aftermarket options are twin 2.5'' or a single 3.5'' both a small gain above stock and potentially much louder.

Remember only 1 vendor requires a aftermarket exhaust which is DAW, so they can deny warranty claims. I am surprised VTT has not picked up on this skillful way to say SOL to customers ;)

550WHP the stock exhaust is fine and not a restriction you should pour $$$ into.

Yeah I also void all customer warranties when they don't use my required exhaust 😂😉

Only reason i say that is because they did Warranty @NoGuru's Turbos surprisingly
Tony sent me upgraded CHRAs when I blew their “stock replacement” turbos even knowing I was definitely pushing them beyond what they could handle. Maybe he was feeling sorry for the ole man 🤷🏻

Ok back to the exhaust conversion I still have my stock exhaust minus all the cats. Just have some resonators to handle the rasp and the mufflers. Knowing I’m currently putting in the VTT FRB+ I’m for sure going to be over 550hp are y’all suggesting I stick the VRSF “cat back” exhaust system I have collecting dust in my garage?

Thanks yeah didn’t mean to stray too far away from the original posters question…but the hp talk had me a little worried. When I opened the box with the VRSF exhaust decided I wasn’t gonna be putting that in the car..I’m sure some people like it so not sliding VRSF just not my taste 🤷🏻

Cats are the biggest restriction. You deleted all 4.
No need to swap exhaust unless you want a specific sound.

Thanks for the replies. I was considering swapping the secondary cars for vibrant resonators. Just worried about the additional stink and don’t want it too much louder. Read several posts that said deleting cars for the vibrant resonators removed the rasp, but read a couple more that said it didn’t do jack.

I can deal with a couple decibels louder, especially if it removes any rasp, but I don’t want to go through what I did with my 95 m3 running a AA track pipe and muffler —- sounded amazing — but was so stinky I’d get mean mugged by people in parking lots and was embarrassed to go to any drive thrus.

I used 2 vibrant 1792 resonators with my stock mufflers it did remove the raspy drone I was experiencing after removing the cats. I haven’t noticed anyone mean mugging me about the smell my girlfriend has been behind me on more than one occasion an hasn’t mentioned my car being stinky lol if that helps 🤣
