Hello, beautiful people of the BMW community. Some of you already may know my build from Instagram @LS_Smrf or from my facebook posts.
To follow on Draysen's footsteps, I too, want to post my LS turbo build.
Car: 2007 bmw 335i e92
Original n54 build - VM single turbo w/pte6466...made 730whp, tuned by Justin v8bait, before i blew up the stock motor.
After cylinder 1 pulled a SpongeBob on me (I'm out), I did not want to deal with the N54 gremlins anymore and decided to go LS. Thank to Michael Page (LSe90.com) earlier thread on his build, it seemed that the swap was 100% a go. Along with Draysen, Michael and a few others, we created a small group chat and helped each other out to make this happen.
Here we go:
The motor is a 5.3 L33 out of a chevy Silverado. Picked it up for $400. I decided to install new rod bearings and new piston rings gapped for boost, to have peace of mind, and went with the economical Sloppy Stage 2 cam (not the best, but not the worst cam in the market), and ls7 style lifters. The 799 heads received new BTR dual valve springs, trunion rocker arm upgrade, and Chromoly pushrods.
For engine management i went with the Holley Terminator X. Very easy to use....basically Plug&Play with little wiring to do yourself, but definitely worth it.
Picked up the motor...yeay...very excited at this point.
Honed cylinder walls and new gapped piston rings
Soda blasted the pistons.
And Motor is ready to be dropped in.
Now it was time to decide what turbo to use....Michael page talked me into the VSR billet 7875 for a damn good deal.
Snake eater PErformance 1500cc Injectors:
Now came time for the brackets.....great quality and exceptional service/communication with Michael.
With the motor brackets installed and motor in the engine bay, i now could mock-up and fabricate the turbo hot parts. Following Michael Page`s build, i made my own kit.
Using a 5th gen camaro manifold on the driver side.
and a modified truck flipped passanger side manifold on the passanger/turbo side:
After both manifold were fabricated/modified i went ahead to make the corsspipe
With the Turbo kit completed not i could focus on the rear diff - Ford 8.8 with DSS axles.
Fits like a glove.
With the rear diff installed i went to work on the Transmission. I had originally planed and purchased everything to install a T56 manual transmission because the shifter lines up with the stock shifter hole and i thought i wanted a manual for the driving experience.
After my first trip to the drag strip....i grinded gears, took forever to shift....it just did not feel right...and hated this transmission, specially if i wanted to win races.
Well...i went ahead and sold the t56 and purchased an FTI level 4 th400 transmission and a JAkes performance Torque converter:
HAd the driveshaft redone and we are good to go with the new set up.
New trans oil cooler:
Once everything was installed and had it up and running.....i wanted to install a Holley Hi-Ram intake manifold and complimented it with te Holley 92mm throttle body....i wanted an aggressive, intimidating look....so i bought one
ALOT of hours and sweat...and talking with our LS swap group chat, i finally completed my project. Now is time to fine tune it and fix little things here and there.
It was time to go to the track and do a few shakedown test hits with this new set up.
12psi (wastegate pressure).
Had only a chance to make 2 passes before it developed an oil leak that it was an easy fix once i got it back home......this one was the best one.
Car weights 3,580 lbs with me in it and 3,490 lbs without me. This was on about half of tank of ethanol
THANK YOU!!!! Michael Page and the LS swap few (you know who you are) people who all came together and put all the knowledge together to make this happen. I couldnt be any happier with this build.
I know i need more seat time to get the 60' better and be able to get into the 10s....then raise boost and the plan is to run 9s before the end of the year.
Thank you for watching......
