X5 Bimmer Performance Center Electric Exhaust Cutout F15

We had a rather unique request for this N55 powered F15 X5. The customer wanted a little more growl from the exhaust but also wanted to be in control of the sound. The solution was an electric exhaust cutout. The cutout is installed in line with the factory exhaust system and a toggle switch is conveniently hidden in the cabin for the customer to access with ease. This modification definitely changes the sound of the vehicle and raises quite a few eyebrows.

Here is a little sound clip with the cutout fully opened:

Doesn't look like the video made it over. You should be able to post a youtube link if you have one and it should auto-embed.

Gah sorry about that, my phone has been really weird today. Oddly I couldn't upload it to youtube but somehow got it to upload to facebook. Hopefully this is ok. I just added it to the original post.

It does sound pretty good. Not what you would expect from an X5. It allows the customer to be in control of the sound and also be "that guy" on weekends but also be tame for taking the kids to school and activities.

Hey Phil. Would you mind sharing what cutout and parts you used? And not a F15 question, but any ideas where this could be mounted on an E82 exhaust line?

This is a QTP electric cutout, it's all one assembly, you may need to purchase the turn down separately. With placement it depends on how much space you have. When installing this one we went with the area on the vehicle that had the greatest amount of space and would seem hidden from behind.
